McEldrew Purtell Helps Secure a Tentative $4.8 Million Settlement for the Estate of Ronald Greene

After years of fighting for answers and accountability, the Estate of Ronald Greene has reached a tentative $4.85 million settlement with the Louisiana State Police in their federal wrongful death lawsuit. While no legal outcome can erase the pain of losing Ronald Greene, this resolution marks a significant moment in a long and difficult pursuit of justice.

Ronald Greene died in May 2019 following a prolonged encounter with Louisiana State Police Troopers after a high-speed chase near Monroe, Louisiana. In the years that followed, body camera footage and additional evidence was uncovered, contradicting early official accounts of the incident. This previously suppressed information raised serious questions about the actions of the Troopers and the State Police’s handling of the case.

McEldrew Purtell attorney Mark V. Maguire played a crucial role in gathering evidence related to the death and its aftermath, ultimately leading to multiple formal investigations of the State Police conduct. Despite facing significant resistance along the way, he kept fighting for Mr. Greene’s estate until a settlement was secured that recognized the magnitude of the suffering endured by Mr. Greene’s daughter.

This settlement represents years of persistence and courage in the face of systemic injustice. Through times of grief and uncertainty, many supporters continued pressing forward to ensure that Mr. Greene’s story was not forgotten. Mr. Maguire was honored to help represent the Estate in securing this result.

Mr. Maguire’s efforts in this case underscore the critical role civil litigation can play in creating public accountability and helping pursue justice after devastating loss. The result reflects his determination to fight for his clients to the end, along with the determination of clients who refuse to accept silence in the aftermath of tragedy.

At McEldrew Purtell, we are proud to advocate for individuals and families facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. We remain committed to pursuing accountability and justice wherever it is needed most.
