Investigation Update: Ford Recalls More Than 850,000 Vehicles Over Faulty Fuel Pump

McEldrew Purtell currently represents multiple clients affected by a secondary fuel filter leak in Ford vehicles, which poses an increased risk of engine fire. One week before the court ordered inspection and destructive testing in our first case, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into over 200,000 Ford vehicles, mirroring claims made by the McEldrew Purtell team.

As of July 11, 2025, Ford Motor is recalling 850,318 Ford and Lincoln models because the vehicles’ low-pressure fuel pump may fail while in use, causing the engine to stall, according to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This investigation follows 27 complaints, including 12 reports of fires and four injuries. The evaluation focuses on Ford F-250, 350, 450, and 550 Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines from model years 2015 to 2021. Ford has yet to comment on the matter, but McEldrew Purtell’s partner and lead attorney, Dan Purtell, along with the catastrophic injury team and co-counsel, remain steadfast in pursuing justice for those affected by this case.

Ford’s history with fire-related issues dates back to the 1990s, involving millions of vehicles across various models. Past defects related to oil pan leaks, engine block heaters, ignition switches, and cruise control switches have also been notorious for causing vehicle fires even when the vehicles are parked. These issues have led to substantial catastrophic injury litigation.
